a collection of close & quiet songs about aloneness, anxiety, & longing for the presence of the Lord.

about jacob:

Jacob Goins is a folk music artist based near Asheville, North Carolina. As an Appalachian native, he is continually filled up and inspired by the woods that surround him. His music is an overflow.

He and his brother Andrew (upright bass) pour themselves out in their work by playing shows wherever they can.

Jacob has many musical projects underway and is excited for the year to come as he continues to share.

I met Jacob Goins a good while back as a young songwriter with an honest and true heart, and great depth beyond his years. Jacob has grown to become a voice to follow in the coming decade, truly coming into his stride with his latest EP, ‘Song of the City’. It feels timeless, nostalgic, yet fresh. My top tracks: ‘Empty Chair’ and ‘Song of the City’. The world needs more artists like Jacob Goins.

about the ep:

In the summer of 2019, I lived out of my vehicle in and around Lafayette, Colorado. I was an intern under the masterful artists/producers, Dave Wilton (A Boy and his Kite, Loud Harp) and Aaron Strumpel.

My week with Aaron and Dave ended on Thursday afternoons, during which I would drive up into the mountains for the weekend to hike, camp, and soak in the beauty of the Colorado wilderness. I spent these long weekends alone.

This quiet EP is a journal of that time.

It was written and compiled in solitary nights atop windy and pine covered hills, nestled in the high-altitude valleys of former mining towns, and beside campfires in rugged boulder fields.

It was a time of strained, long distance relationship. It was a time of being distinctly away from home. And so, even while I was in these grand and silent places, I was often of an unsettled and anxious heart. Though I was in the serene wilderness, my mind and heart often felt more like a busy and unkindly city.

These are songs of evening and candlelight, of anxiety and striving, and of yearning for the presence of the Lord and my best friend.
