A Certain Kind of Light

I was out walking

In the low humming breath of evening In the twilighting softly grieving, When a light caught my sight, my breathing, A splendor beyond words or conceiving.

It was a certain kind of light; It was a one-time glory, A closeness for a while; Depth of color, brilliant lines, molten textured Clouds with gradient colored hues, Golden at the top, descending into blue.

I thought of you, my friend. How we grew well, we shared our growing; We dreamt well, we grew without knowing, Unaware that there’d be no slowing The coming of the day of your going.

And we’ve drawn apart, O brother; And further we grow, And further we grow.

Steady goes the sunlight, And steady comes A new time. And I’m singing farewell To a certain kind of light,

To a one-time glory, To a closeness for a while.

And we’ve drawn apart, O brother; And further we grow, And further we grow. Steady goes the sunlight, And steady comes A new time. And I’m singing farewell To a certain kind of light, To a one-time glory, To a closeness for a while.
